ChatGPT Enterprise vs Claude Enterprise: Pricing and What Each Is Worth to a Large Business (2026)

Claude Enterprise is $20/seat plus usage; ChatGPT Enterprise is quote-only. Price, security and value compared for large businesses, from a team that deploys both.

Claude Enterprise has a published price: $20 per seat per month, billed annually, with a 20-seat minimum, and every token your people use billed on top at API rates. ChatGPT Enterprise has no published price; OpenAI quotes it through sales, with seat fees and an optional token-based model. For a large business, the license is the smaller number either way. Which one is worth more depends on your heaviest workload: Claude for long-document analysis, writing and coding, ChatGPT for broad, familiar daily use across a big workforce. What actually decides the return is whether the tool is connected to your data and whether your people are trained to use it.

That is the short answer. The rest of this post is the comparison we walk clients through, with prices read from the vendors' own pages on October 29, 2026, and what we see when we deploy these tools inside real companies.

Disclosure: Team Nebula is an Anthropic partner, and we deploy both Claude and ChatGPT for clients. Weigh our opinions with that in mind; every price and feature below links to the vendor's own page.

How much does Claude Enterprise cost?

Anthropic moved Claude Enterprise to a seat-plus-usage model. The seat costs $20 per user per month on an annual contract, with a 20-seat minimum (Claude pricing). Anthropic's billing page is blunt about what that covers: the seat "doesn't include any usage. Every token your team consumes is billed separately at standard API rates" (Anthropic help center).

That makes Claude Enterprise cheap to start and hard to forecast. A team that mostly drafts emails will cost little more than the seat. A team running Claude Code all day against a large codebase can cost many times that. Uber is the public cautionary tale: it capped AI coding tools at $1,500 per employee per month per tool after burning through its 2026 AI budget in about four months, with Claude Code named as a main driver (Bloomberg Law, June 2026).

If you buy Claude Enterprise, set org-level and per-user spend limits on day one. Anthropic provides both.

How much does ChatGPT Enterprise cost?

OpenAI does not publish it. The pricing page says "Custom pricing. Contact our sales team" and notes that credit-based and token-based pricing are both available for Enterprise (ChatGPT pricing). Under the token-based model, usage across ChatGPT, Codex and agents is metered and charged "alongside any contracted seat fees," and seat fees count every seat assigned at the start of the month, used or not.

You will see "$60 per user per month, 150-seat minimum" repeated on most pages that rank for this question. We could not find a primary source for it. One pricing blog that repeats it notes OpenAI has never confirmed it, and another traces it to a 2023 Reddit post. Treat it as a rumor, and get a real quote.

Three rows matter more than they look:

  1. Data residency. If you operate in the EU, the UK or Asia and your counsel wants data kept in-region, ChatGPT Enterprise covers ten regions today. Anthropic states that Claude Enterprise data "is stored in the US," and its only processing-location option is US-only (Anthropic privacy center).
  2. Federal work. ChatGPT Enterprise holds FedRAMP 20x Moderate. Claude Enterprise is still in process; Anthropic's FedRAMP High path runs through Claude for Government and through Claude on AWS Bedrock and Google Vertex.
  3. HIPAA. Both offer a BAA at the Enterprise tier: OpenAI through sales for ChatGPT Enterprise, and not at all for ChatGPT Business (OpenAI help center). Claude Enterprise's BAA excludes connectors, skills and enterprise search. That matters because, as the next sections argue, connectors are where the value is.

Is Claude or ChatGPT better for a large business?

Neither, across the board. Pick by workload.

Here is what we see in our own deployments. Claude wins the deep work: analysis across long documents, writing that has to hold up to review, and coding with Claude Code. ChatGPT's strength is breadth and familiarity. Many of your employees have already used it at home, so a company-wide rollout starts with less friction.

The market data says the same thing from the outside. An a16z survey of large-company CIOs found leaders split by use case: OpenAI for chat and knowledge work, Anthropic for code and analysis (a16z, January 2026; note a16z invests in OpenAI). Ramp's spend data shows Anthropic used by 43.8% of US businesses that pay for AI and OpenAI by 40.6% as of September 2026, with OpenAI growing faster month over month (Ramp AI Index). It is close, and it is moving.

So the honest decision rule:

  • Mostly engineers, analysts, lawyers, writers? Start with Claude Enterprise, and put spend caps in place.
  • Thousands of general staff who need a daily assistant, or in-region data requirements? ChatGPT Enterprise is the safer default.
  • Both profiles? Many companies already run both. Ramp reports about 79% of Anthropic's business customers also pay OpenAI (Ramp, February 2026).

What actually makes either one worth the money?

The license is the cheap part. In our deployments, the payoff comes from two things, and neither is on the pricing page.

Connectors decide the value. A model that can't see your SharePoint, Drive, ERP or ticketing system is a chat box. Your people paste things in, get an answer, and paste it back out. Once it reads the systems where the work lives, it starts doing work. OpenAI's own enterprise report makes the same point: roughly one in four enterprises still hasn't turned connectors on (OpenAI, State of Enterprise AI). Before you sign, list the five systems your heaviest users touch every day and check that the plan connects to all of them, under your security rules.

Training decides adoption. BCG's 2025 AI at Work survey found 79% of employees with more than five hours of training use AI regularly, against 67% of those with less, and only 36% say their training is enough (BCG). No public source reports what share of ChatGPT or Claude seats sit idle, so ask the vendor for your own usage analytics in the first 90 days. Budget for the rollout, not just the seats.

Why serious teams use more than one model

There is a second reason to run both, and it has nothing to do with which chat app your staff prefer. In the production systems we build, the most reliable ones use models from different families to check each other. A Claude model and a GPT model make different mistakes. When one drafts and the other reviews, each catches errors the other would miss. A single model reviewing its own output tends to agree with itself.

That's an argument for keeping API access to both vendors even if you standardize on one chat app for staff. a16z found 81% of large companies already run three or more model families.

Frequently asked questions

Is Claude Team or Claude Enterprise better for a large company? Claude Team caps at 150 seats and lacks SCIM, role-based access, audit logs and the Compliance API. Past a few dozen users, or if IT needs automated provisioning and audit trails, you need Enterprise.

What is the difference between ChatGPT Business and ChatGPT Enterprise? Business is self-serve for 2 to 200 users at $20 per standard seat, and includes up to $500 a month in pooled API credits that Enterprise doesn't get (OpenAI help center). Enterprise adds SCIM, role-based access, the Compliance API, encryption key management, data residency in ten regions, ISO certifications and custom contract terms, at a negotiated price.

Does Claude Enterprise include usage? No. The $20 seat covers access to Claude, Claude Code and the desktop and mobile apps. All usage is billed at API rates.

Will either vendor train on our data? Both state they do not train on business workspace data by default. Check retention too: Claude Enterprise keeps data indefinitely unless an admin sets a custom retention period, with a 30-day minimum (Anthropic).

Build for the next model, not this one

Everything above is true as of October 2026. It will not all be true in six months. Ramp's data shows the lead between the two vendors changing hands this year, and Anthropic retired its old Enterprise seat types for new contracts in favor of seat-plus-usage. Both vendors ship new tiers faster than procurement cycles run.

So our strongest recommendation isn't Claude or ChatGPT. Build the systems that matter to you so they can work with any model: your data layer, your connectors, your evaluation of what a right answer looks like. Then the choice of model becomes a setting you can change, not a migration.
